The 1st edition of a new market concept took place yesterday in Lisbon. SHOT, an eclectic market with the aim of introducing new and small companies was hosted at a pastel-colored neo-Arabic palace, dating from 1877, whose architect tried to create a romantic evocation of the Moorish world: horseshoe arch windows, pyramidal spires and oriental-style domes topped by pinnacles. Indoors, the majestic staircase, the frescoes on the ceilings and the beautiful patio made me feel as if I were diving into a somehow exotic world.
Formerly residence of a wealthy family, the palace has been recently acquired by a foreign investor. Rumors abound that the building will be renovated to become a boutique hotel.
As the weather was inviting to stay at home, I had not expected to see so many potential shoppers. Perhaps people were as curious as me and the heavy showers early in the afternoon did not deter them from stepping out from their homes...
There was a great variety of items on sale: accessories, clothing, bijouterie, housewares, home textiles, food delicacies and much more. I didn't buy anything at all but sales in general seemed to be running pretty well.
Hope you enjoy the shots of THE SHOT...
What a wonderful outing you had! The architecture is nothing short of remarkable. Certainly, the palace will make a wonderful hotel when it is restored.
