LET'S GO OUTSIDE LISBON ... SLIDE-SHOW

A few weeks ago I spent the weekend outside Lisbon, more precisely at a small town, one hour’s drive away from my place. On the way to my final destination, Palmela, so the town is called after its Roman founder, Cornelius Palma, I stopped at Azeitao, a small village nestled in the mountains, where wine producers have been creating sweet muscatel wine for centuries. After wandering through the village and its local market, I headed to the semi-rural town of Palmela, up on a hill and home to many multinational industrial plants like Volkswagen or Coca-Cola, while a significant number of foreign families live in the area. The castle, the town’s landmark, offers a unique view over the whole region and the Atlantic Coast. A former 500 year old convent adjacent to the Castle was converted into a boutique hotel, by the end of last century. Thanks to a hotel voucher I had got at a golf competition, I stayed in it, and enjoyed its comfort, despite a certain austerity that preserves a lot of the 17th century. Enjoy!

~~ Have a good weekend ~~

it's the Portugal I just love to see, and I know I have to visit some day! The hotel and castle were beautiful, but I love the tiles, and pictures of shops, the goods and vendors!

  5. That was a wonderful slideshow....so many fantastic photos!! I really love the ones of the white buildings against the blue sky. The castle and it's integrated hotel are terrific, too!! And of course, the wines all look ready to be sampled!! I'd really like to see this place myself one day.
