This afternoon, as I was walking in a summer resort near Lisbon I encountered with this man who I, suppose, was a foreigner. The photo below was taken at 6:40pm.
As soon as I looked at him, a photo I had taken two years ago, precisely in the same resort, yet on a different street, came to my mind. According to the respective file, it was taken on August 7, 2010. at 6:20pm.
Looking at both photos, do you think he was the same man? I think he was...
I think so, too! what an unusual coincidence!
ReplyDeleteI think so too. I would love to see his shoes and but the hair on his forearms seems similar. Remarkable that he is wearing the same orange shirt.
ReplyDeletehe must be!
ReplyDeleteYesss, unusual, indeed! There are people who say there are no coincidences but I disagree to a certain extent. My life is full of coincidences. Why? I don't know...
ReplyDeleteI cropped the photo, but I'll check if prior to being cropped, his shoes were seen...
ReplyDeletemy goodness, not 100% sure, but I think so! how weird!
ReplyDeleteOk now you can see his shoes and backpacks... one at least seems to be the same as that seen in the photo taken in 2010.
ReplyDeleteYes, the backpacks do it for me. Same fellow.
ReplyDeleteYES! he is...
ReplyDeleteyep!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks all of you who have confirmed what I had thought. Other than the coincidence of being the same man, it's weird how the difference between the two photos, other than the 2 year's time, was of 20 minutes, only!!
ReplyDeletewow, he looks to be the same guy to me !
ReplyDeleteYes I would say so, seems to have invested in a haircut since the you last saw him,
ReplyDeleteSure looks like it to me Belita.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering what this means if anything, as I don't believe in coincidence. The 20minutes time difference does it for me.
ReplyDeleteI keep coming back and looking. I have to agree witn everyone here - I think it is the same man.
ReplyDeleteThe strange thing is that after two years he's still wearing the same clothes and using the same pack!
ReplyDeletehe got the same look and wrinkles..i say 99% procent sure its the same..
ReplyDeletei know a bunch of people who wear two years later same cloths and same back pack simply because they dont care about fashion and better spend their money on other things..really!
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't seem strange to me. Keeping clothes and accessories for two years long or even more is quite natural. Why disposing what is still wearable?
ReplyDeleteI would understand it, like the same shirt and pack, as a small coincidence closely related to the main one ..
ReplyDeleteAlmost certainly the same man, I'd say 98% probable. I don't see anything co-incidental about this. There's no significant co-incidence of dates, being in different months. Street entertainers or those who live/beg by means of entertaining outdoors not only tend to use the same clothing for long periods, as their income is rarely sufficient to buy new items very often, but nearly always return to places where they make most money, therefore will be seen in "the same place at the same time" often.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I respect your point of view, Mitch! What was interesting to me was the fact that I had seen him for my 1st time on a street a bit far away from where I saw him yesterday. Furthermore, in 2010, when I took the photo of him, at that moment he seemed to me to be nothing else but simply a foreign tourist. It was on a hot day, I remember it well, and he looked as if he were having rest. The street was in a residential area, so not making himself ready for any street performance.... he would have no audience, at all.
ReplyDeleteThat does shed a different light on it. Perhaps when you photographed him the first time he really was having a rest, maybe before or after giving a street performance in another place. Or maybe the first time he really was just passing through, but decided to return as it looked a good place to perform? I guess we will never know for sure. Unless, of course, you see him again in the future and perhaps ask him?
ReplyDeleteI somewhat agree with Mitch, this might be his circuit for moving around the area. I grew up in a small town that had carnivals and street fairs that were transient, as well as "gypsy" groups that would follow the crops as pickers. It was not unusual to see the same people.
ReplyDeleteIf I happen to see him again, I will not hesitate to stop and talk to him, assuming that he will accept it. If I am successful, I'll let you know all the details, without fail...
ReplyDeletebe very careful Belita........................you know the saying "don't talk to strangers".............I am also fairly certain it is the same man, but would be hesitant to reveal I took a photo of him in 2010 and now again....................he might get upset and a lot of those "travellers" are addicts too or he might think he can get something from you...............looks like the same shirt and backpack, though shirt now looks older. He has cut his hair but his build and demeanour is the same.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marianne, for your advise, however, I'll not follow it....If I see him once again, I'll approach him in a very tactful way.... I think I know how to do it with caution...
